Vincent Owens – Mr. Owens joined Intelect as its first employee in April of 2005, having 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Intelect in 2005, Mr. Owens was President and CEO of Texcel, a privately held contract manufacturer of implantable devices, including neurostimulators and implantable defibrillators (ICDs). From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Owens was President and CEO of BIOMEC Cardiovascular, Inc. (BCI), following the acquisition of InnoMedica, a Minneapolis-based developer of proprietary implantable stimulation leads and delivery systems for the neuromodulation and CRM markets. He led the company through a 300% increase in revenue over a four year period, ending in acquisition by publicly traded Enpath Medical, Inc. (NPTH). Previously, Mr. Owens held operations management and engineering roles at medical device companies including Ciba Corning Diagnostics (now Siemens) and Circon (now Gyrus Medical). Mr. Owens holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and an M.B.A from Ashland University.
Ali Rezai, M.D. Chairman, Center for Neurological Restoration Director, Brain Neuromodulation Center, Jane and Lee Seidman Chair in Functional Neurosurgery, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation – (full bio) Dr. Rezai earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Southern California and underwent neurosurgical training at New York University. Subsequently he completed his subspecialty training in functional neurosurgery at the University of Toronto and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He then joined the neurosurgical faculty at New York University Medical Center, becoming the director of the Center for Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery until January 2000, when he joined the faculty at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Rezai is a board certified neurosurgeon. His clinical area of expertise is the neurosurgical management of patients with severe movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and dystonia, psychiatric conditions such as depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, chronic pain, and traumatic brain injury conditions. Dr. Rezai has been named as one of the best doctors in America in Castle and Connolly's guide to America's Top Doctors for 2001-2006.
James Mellor – Mr. Mellor has over 25 years of marketing, strategic planning, and product development experience in the medical device industry. He spent 15 years with Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Management in a variety of marketing and product development roles, that included a number of commercial launches for $100+ million revenue-producing products and a successful European assignment to market a newly acquired product line in electrophysiology. Mr. Mellor has also demonstrated success in developing and implementing focused, strategic plans for smaller device firms such as Synovis, Biomec Cardiovascular, and Enpath Medical. He holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Steve LaPorte – Mr. LaPorte has had a long and distinguished career in the medical device industry including 27 years at Medtronic, including more than a decade as vice president and general manager of multiple divisions, including electrophysiology systems, drug delivery, and, most recently, Neuroventures. In these roles, he had extensive general operational and management experience as well as broad strategic planning and execution duties. LaPorte holds a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Steve also holds a part-time role as Venture Partner for Onset Ventures, a technology venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, CA.
Linda Johnson– Linda has served in a variety of clinical roles, both within the device industry and for healthcare providers. She came to Intelect from Emerson Consultants, Inc., a highly respected clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement consultant group in the medical device industry, where she served as the VP Clinical Research. Prior to her consulting experience, she had worked in high-level positions directing clinical affairs for ev3 and for six years at Medtronic, where she managed a large clinical staff and the SCD-HeFT clinical trial, a landmark clinical study that demonstrated the value of ICD systems for patients with heart failure at risk of sudden cardiac death. Before joining Medtronic, she had led medical research for health care systems in the Twin Cities, including Health East, Minnesota Spine Center, and Group Health. Linda holds an MA and PhD in Communication Disorders and her early work experience included clinical research in human communication disorders and research in support of the design and development of cochlear implants and digital hearing aids.
Scott Kokones – Prior to joining Intelect, Mr. Kokones was the Research and Development Manager for Enpath Medical, responsible for the design and development of implantable stimulation leads in the fields of cardiac rhythm management and neuromodulation. Prior to Enpath, Mr. Kokones was employed at Medtronic as a Mechanical Design Engineer where he designed neurostimulation leads, adaptors and accessories for use on peripheral nerve stimulation, spinal cord stimulation and deep brain stimulation. He holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan where he graduated with honors.
Alan J. Greszler – Mr. Greszler joined Intelect in October 2005, bringing more than 20 years of product development experience in the medical device industry, including senior R&D and engineering management positions with companies including CR Bard, Baxter, and Ciba Corning Diagnostics (now Siemens). He has led the research, development and successful commercialization of a wide array of medical devices including interventional cardiology devices and implantable devices for cardiac rhythm management applications. Mr. Greszler holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University.
Keith Carlton – Prior to joining Intelect, Mr. Carlton was the Director of Research and Development of Texcel, a contract manufacturing company specializing in Class III medical devices. Prior to Texcel, Mr. Carlton was Senior Project Engineer for Medtronic, Inc., responsible for the design and development of key products in the company's gastroenterology/urology business. Those products included a neurostimulation device, two software applications for programming the device, and a lead for delivering the therapy. Mr. Carlton holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Johns Hopkins University.
Robert L. Purcell III – Mr. Purcell joined Intelect in September of 2005 on a part-time basis. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the accounting and administration fields with a variety of medical device, distribution and manufacturing companies. Mr. Purcell also is the President, COO, Secretary and Treasurer for a Cleveland based medical device company called ElectroSonics Medical Inc. (formerly known as BIOMEC Inc.). In addition, Mr. Purcell served in the Ohio Army National Guard as a Material Control and Accounting Specialist. He received his Accounting degree from The University of Akron and his M.B.A. from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
